Ask Style: What's the Deal With the "Modern Clog?"

What's a "modern clog"? How do I wear it?

No problem! Take your traditional, '70s-looking chunk-o-footwear. Keep the platform sole—often in a plywood-inspired style. Also, keep the studs, which are often used as an accent between the upper and the sole.
But then bring it up to date.
Add some more feminine touches, specifically, a higher heel, some cutouts, perhaps a more contemporary color or finish—et voilà! You have what stylistas are calling the "modern clog." Some modern clogs look almost like the originals—they're still mules, but with a higher heel. Take Calleen Cordero's Niev, for example.
The terrific thing about this trend is that you don't have to have a summer home in the Maldives to be able to afford it. For around $60, you can get a Kensie Girl modern clog in brown. You can even go to Target—home of the $30 shoe—and get a modern clog in pump form, which, yes, makes it more than perfect for the office.
The great thing about the "new clog" is that it's much more versatile than its blockier ancestor. Unlike traditional clogs, which really don't belong paired with anything other than pants or maybe a long skirt, the higher heel and more feminine feel of a modern clog gives the wearer more options. Pair the newer clogs with an über-femme full skirt or dress; or slacks or jeans, preferably the skinny kind. (We found a pair for under 50 bucks.) The one look you may want to avoid? Anything too sleek or tailored; the modern clog may still not be quite structured enough for that.

1. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! Your Clean House show finds slobs and then rewards them with fresh paint and new appliances!!!!! I tuned into this show.....WHAT A BIG MISTAKE!!! I have been working on updating my house for years now. I don't live like a slob so I guess I wouldn't qualify for any new appliances. Mindy and Phil have a problem and it's not a disease.....it is called LAZINESS!!!!! Maybe they should stay home and clean their house and give up playing games at 7:00 pm on Fridays.
