Buy a Pillow, Save a Plant

We love house plants, especially at this time of year when the world is blooming. But no matter what we do, we just can't keep the poor things alive. Whenever we see photo spreads of celebrities' homes filled with thriving, lush flora, we remind ourselves that they probably can afford to pay some nice plant expert with a big, green thumb (like that hot gardner on Desperate Housewives) to come over twice a week.
So what can you do when Spring Fever strikes and you're desperate to get some dirt under your fingernails? Step away from that innocent fern and instead go for a type of evergreen that's all the rage this season: botantical-print throw pillows.
Not only can you forget about light levels, but you'll never again have to bribe a friend to water for you while you're on vacation. Pair up pillows with the same print but in contrasting colors on your sofa or toss a bunch of different shapes and sizes on your bed to create your own private Garden of Eden.
Steals n Splurges
Steal
Fix yourself a glass of iced tea, turn on the ceiling fan and relax on this palm-print Crate & Barrel cotton pillow, $26.95.
Splurge
Pick a geranium, caladium or gingko without fear of inadvertently becoming a plant killer at Hable Construction, $183-270.
Pillows still need some primping. Will this trend grow on you? Poll after the jump.
Will pillows replace plants that need TLW (tender love and water) in your pad?
