Diagnosing Dr. Wendy

A flawless, air-brushed complexion—isn't that what we all want? Well, Dr. Wendy, aka the Sacandaga Herbalist (for the lake near her upstate New York hometown), promises she has the formula for smooth, Hollywood-perfect skin. We're listening.
The doc, whose full name is Dr. Wendy Keeney-Kennicutt, says her Wrinkle Warrior and Balm Squad ointments are actually one and the same, despite the different labels (see above). That's right, the herbalist/chemist has supposedly concocted an herbal cream that fights a dual battle—it prevents wrinkles and blemishes while naturally healing any cuts, scrapes or burns. It's "the best first-aid kit in a tube," she says.
Packed with aloe vera and concentrated herbal extracts, the lotion is supposed to reverse skin damage and leave the skin feeling lusciously moisturized. "The cream acts as a skin rejuvenator, restoring it to a more youthful beauty," Dr. Wendy continues. And she insists the gentle formula is also safe for your pooch!
The cream sure sounds like a double-hitter, but can it really solve all our skin woes? We grabbed a few bottles of the doc’s product and asked Style staffers for a second opinion.
"I used Dr. Wendy's herbal cream at night before going to bed and in the morning under my makeup. I'm not sure if the Warrior conquered my wrinkles, but as far as moisturizing goes, I call it a victory. A little goes a long way with this thick, scentless cream. My skin absorbed the lotion like those paper towel commercials after a five year old spills grape juice all over the place. And it didn't leave me feeling greasy or suffocated. Compared to other expensive lotions I've tried, this one ranks pretty high in terms of overall feel, absorbency and smell. And it's made from all kinds of herbs and natural products—which I love. I didn't get a chance to see if it really heals wounds since I didn't have any, but I will definitely try it when I do!"

"I was skeptical about Dr. Wendy’s herbal cream, which claims to work on the face and body—healing wounds and reducing wrinkles. Since I had no wounds and would need to use it for a longer period of time to support or deny the claim of it reducing wrinkles, my comments are limited. I can say, however, that the texture of the cream is rich and thick and absorbed fairly quickly. It felt good on my body, but was a bit too heavy for daytime use on my face. For overnight use, on the other hand, this richness could be just what makes it an effective solution for wrinkles. The scent was pleasant, a mild herbal concoction that does not overpower. I will continue to use the cream in my search for more long-term results."

"After using Dr. Wendy's herbal cream for a few days, I did not see any difference—either as a skin rejuvenator or wound healer. What makes me leery about this product is that it is made for humans and pets. I'm not sure how the lotion heals human wounds and pet wounds. I feel it would be the same concept as using pet shampoo for humans. You could use it, but would you really? Would you feel comfortable using it? I, for one, am not. Since this product was originally developed to cure horses with nasty cuts, I feel it should stay in the animal market. It smells nice, but overall I was disappointed. I would not use it again because it doesn't work. Maybe it would work better on horses than humans."

1. Thanks for reviewing my Wrinkle Warrior/Balm Squad cream! Just some comments. If you use it right after a shower while the skin is dewy, a dab will spread nicely and won’t seem thick. You can also put it on one of those deep zits as soon as you notice it before it erupts, and it will go away in a couple of days. Deeper wrinkles took time to form; skin takes time to heal. Lastly, don’t be afraid because it can be used for both people and pets – we’re genetically more alike than you realize.
