How to Wear A High-Waisted Belt?

Eva Longoria

Is there a way for short women to wear high-waisted belts without making them look even shorter?
—Dawn, New York

Style Spy Says: Berry

Being of the garden-gnome variety myself, I can tell you that high-waisted anything isn't really recommended for people like us. High-waisted pants, skirts and belts generally flatter taller women with long torsos, according to conventional wisdom. Still, there is one way to make the most of this fleeting trend, no matter what your height or build: shoes. Glorious, stacked, hyper-platformed pumps, peep-toes, slingbacks—the higher the better. (Eva Longoria Parker has the right idea, above.)

A slightly flared style of high-waisted pant also can create height and curves in all the right places, but really, nothing beats a towering Louboutin. Also, keep the belt simple and skinny. Eva notwithstanding, bigger belts usually tend to swallow up smurfs like us.
