Ramp It Up in Red Pumps

Celebs like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Jamie Lynn Spears are painting Tinseltown red with—what else?—red pumps. Rihanna took the look global when she rocked out on stage at the World Music Awards in ruby red stilettos this past weekend.

"Red pumps are always a great way to spice up a drabby outfit," says How Do I Look? stylist Bory Tan, who explains that the fiery shade isn't for the fashionably faint of heart. "It's a color that won't ever go unnoticed."

Sure, you can work the hot hue into your wardrobe with flats, but pumps scream sexy. Tan explains that heels create the illusion of a slimmer silhouette and shapely booty. "Combined with the color red, your shoes will defintely be an attention grabber," she says.

Red pumps can be paired with everything from denim to dresses. "They're a great and easy way to express yourself and make a bold statement without much effort," raves Mar Yvette, How Do I Look? stylist and Los Angeles senior editor for Citysearch.

What will have stylists seeing red? Matchy-matchy is a surefire no-no. "An all-red look is overkill," warns Yvette. The rest of your outfit should be in a neutral palette. "Just as you wouldn't wear a bright red lip while showing off a heavy smoky eye look, you don't want to wear [anything] that would compete with the shoes," says Yvette, who also advises against busy patterns and animal prints. 

Instead, intersperse the color with jewelry and, of course, use it on your pout to pull together the look.
