Shop for a Cause: Five Dollars Can Make a Difference

Aldo AIDS Cuff

Style Scene

It seemed nearly everyone at Kari Feinstein's Emmys Style Lounge last weekend was wearing vintagey gold and silver cuffs. I love bangles, so I just had to have one. Expecting to hear the accessories were designed by a new, high-priced jeweler, I was surprised to discover they were created by orphans of the Rwandan genocide, many of whom have lost a parent to AIDS.

The effort was spearheaded by Aldo, which  teamed up with YouthAIDS and had the children of the Rebero Orphan Center draw their vision of "Love for Life." The images (fish, birds, trees, etc.) were combined to create limited-edition bracelets, for sale online and at Aldo stores for only $5—and every dollar goes to YouthAIDS.
