Style Scene: FIDM Museum Salutes the Little Black Dress

Any stylin' girl worth her wardrobe has at least one LBD in her closet. The versatile number can work from day to night, from the boardroom to the bar. So when we heard about the opening reception of FIDM Museum's newest exhibit, LBD: An Homage to Breakfast at Tiffany's (June 15-Aug. 13), you can bet your black dress that we were there!
As we munched on café au lait and croissants, we took in the stunning collection of 12 LBD's all set against a backdrop of Tiffany box blue. The centerpiece of the exhibit was a stitch-for-stitch recreation of the Givenchy gown Audrey Hepburn wore in the first scene of Breakfast atTiffany's. We could just picture the famous actress coyly wearing the floor-length dress with her pearls and movie-star sunnies. Talk about fashion history!
While perusing the other confections on display, we were excited to spot Kevan Hall and Chan Luu among the iconic dresses, so we snagged the chance to chat up the designers for their fashion tips on styling the LBD.
According to Luu, there is one silhouette that will flatter every body type from pear to hourglass. Listen up ladies, "the A-line is the best for the LBD for most shapes. It works for everyone." Good to know!
As for accessorizing, Hall talked about jewelry options like rhinestones and pearls or even adorning yourself with a fabulous scarf—the possibilities are endless! And if you don't own an LBD yet, the designer gave us a great excuse to go shopping, "Every woman needs an LBD because it's something she'll always know looks good on her. It's her go-to piece." Think of it as an investment that will never go out of style—after all, it's been almost fifty years since Miss Hepburn catapulted the LBD into fame, with no signs of stopping yet!
