Tie It Sideways

There are several ways to rock a ponytail, but stars like Ali Larter, Carrie Underwood and Amy Adams prefer wearing it to the side for a soft, elegant look.
"Side ponytails add easy sophistication," explains Susan Henry, owner of Beverly Hills salon Shades. She encourages women to think big when creating the side ponytail by balancing curly ends with volume on top. "It's the difference between looking red carpet ready and looking like you're ready to run errands," adds Split Ends stylist Andrea Moore.
To achieve a pretty side ponytail, start off by distributing a style enhancing product evenly throughout the hair. Decide which side you want your ponytail to rest on, and gently brush a part from the opposite side to create balance. ("A middle part should only be used when the hair is long or when wearing bangs," advises Henry.) Tease other sections of hair accordingly. Smooth the part over with a flat iron. Bring the rest of the hair to the side and secure loosely. Finish with a spritz of hairspray.
