What Shoes to Wear With Skinny Jeans?

I like skinny jeans. Any ideas on which shoes look great with them?

Unless you're built like Audrey Hepburn or a birch tree sapling, don't go with a flat, although flats with skinny jeans can make an elegant pairing on very slim birds.

No, these times call for height. Lots of it. And you're in luck. This season is chockablock with ridiculously high shoes that have been carved with a kind of weird abandon. Many look more like Renzo Piano buildings than footwear, but they go great with the simplicity of a skinny jean, even this colored pair from Forever 21. Rabid readers of my column will recall that I am in love with Pour La Victoire Dominique sandals, and they are perfect with skinny jeans.

If you do wear such shoes, be sure to step way back in the detailing on the rest of your outfit. Those Bebe jeans with the little studs sure are fabulous, but they get real busy, real quick, when paired with anything other than a simple croco platform pump. To sum up: Do do the purple ruffled platforms, but not with a crazy skinny jean. Only a simple skinny jean.

If teetering shoes are not your thing, consider tucking your skinny jeans into a pair of this season's crazy array of Wellies. You'll certainly be ready for wet weather, if not a night at the club.
