Forget paint jobs or brand new furniture. Transforming a space can be as simple as striking a match. "Strategically placed around a room, lighted candles create an ambiance that is serene and inviting," says interior designer Michael McHugh.
Make a dinner party more intimate by flicking off the switch and placing lit candles at the center of your table. Augment the mesmerizing effect of a fire by lining your mantle and hearth with votives. Highlight wall art by hanging it over a table filled with candles of varying heights. For a more dramatic effect, McHugh recommends combing an assortment of unique candlestick and votive holders. And don't forget: you're saving energy, so it's okay to invest a little more in decor.
