Sydne's Last Hurrah with Heatherette

"Hello, dahling," a woman in a sequined headpiece coos while teetering in six-inch platforms. Wait, that's not a woman. It's a man, baby! It's drag queen central up in Gotham Hall for the highly anticipated Heatherette show. Tall men dressed in feather boas and skin-baring dresses line Sixth Ave awaiting entry. Inside, it's even wilder.
Amid the big-haired and deep-voiced he-shes wearing large hats, Bijou Phillips dances in her seat next to sparkly Tinsley Mortimer and preppy-chic Lance Bass, while Tyson Beckford hugs his mama. Diddy walks down the runway to grab his seat, leaving it up to his bodyguards to keep the photographers at bay.
A woman begins singing onstage, followed by a group of models gyrating like backup dancers up and down the runway. Everyone in the bleachers stands up, and even Diddy bobs his head to the music. Wait, isn't this supposed to be a fashion show? It feels more like a concert. Then the emcee tells us, "This is just the beginning!"
The "Star-Spangled Smiles" show starts with Chanel Iman modeling a white tulle dress to the strains of "Living in America." Diddy takes off his stunner shades to get a better look at the crocheted white minis modeled by girls in ponytails.
The next phase consists of patterned silk dresses and tank-and-shorts combos in vibrant yellows, greens and blues. The voluptuous Kim Kardashian, in a '50s-style green and yellow dress, smiles for her sisters, Kourtney and Khloe, cheering in the front row. While some frocks are ready to wear, others exhibit Heatherette's fondness for extravagance with over-the-top feathers and sparkles.
A man struts out in shiny black lace mini shorts! I think the drag queens will be ecstatic, but they cheer more for the seemingly painted-on red, white and blue look worn by the Dominican model Heatherette used at Snoopy.
After Chanel Iman reemerges with a pint-sized pooch, little girls sashay down to finish the show before the models take their final strut to Lenny Kravitz's "American Woman." To Heatherette, American women are sparkly, colorful...and sometimes men!
That's it for me on the shows. Tonight I'm partying with the Kardashian girls at the Heatherette post-party (for deets, check out my column on E! Online), then returning to Tinseltown. It may only be fall, but I can't wait to wear spring's top looks: structured dresses, high-waisted belts, feminine blouses and a whole lotta gray!
