mystyle: Workchic

Dressing for work can be a headache and a half, especially these days when companies confuse their employees with phrases like "corporate casual" and "general business attire." That's why Jennifer Gregory and Melissa McGraw started Workchic last year. "It takes the stress out of getting dressed for work," they explain of their blog, which offers suggested outfits, fit guidelines and tips and tricks on how to look professional, feminine and chic.
Both women describe their personal style as "workchic with a twist." Melissa loves adding accessories to her skirts and dresses, while Jennifer has fun experimenting with printed blouses over pants and ballet flats. Since they are both curvy and on the petite side, the blogging duo has found that "A-line skirts and dresses, wrap dresses, and pants with a wider leg tend to work best." But A-line silhouettes work across the board, they add. "The shape is universally flattering whether you are petite and curvy or tall and curvy. They also help disguise a troubled midsection."
Melissa and Jennifer recommend dressing for the job you want, not the job you currently have. But they still want you to be comfortable during your climb to the top. "You want to stick with a 1-inch to a 2½-inch heel. That will make it more comfortable to walk in." Read on to hear their suggestions for where to find such shoes, as well as more Workchic secrets.

What shoes do you recommend for a working woman?
Melissa: I gravitate towards Seychelles, Naughty Monkey, Poetic Licence, Sam Edelman and Modern Vintage. The heels are comfortable to walk in.
Jennifer: I wear a lot of flats, but it is hard not to pull out the heels when I have a big meeting. Recently I have found some chic styles at Aerosoles and Naturalizer. You have to hunt out the right style a little more, but comfort is pretty much guaranteed when you find them.
What are three things you should NEVER wear to work?
Cartoon character sweatshirts, ripped denim, flannel pajama pants.
What's the best style tip you ever received?
Dress for the body you have right now, not for the body you had 10 years ago.
Can you recommend a smaller online retailers for someone who wants a more distinctive look?
There is a great line called Bien Abyé by Dayanne Danier that offers more tailored clothing for work.
What are you wearing in your photo?
Melissa: Zara dress, Banana Republic belt, Modern Vintage heels, Banana Republic necklace, Louis Vuitton Damier Azur tote, earrings from an NYC street vendor.
Jennifer: Banana Republic blouse, J.Crew trousers, Gap belt, Aerosole pumps, necklace found at a craft fair.

1. Just watched the messiest home 3 last night and I was appalled. I am so tired of the ungrateful people on these shows. These people need a doctors help not a t.v. show, when that so-called mother threatened to b----- slap her daughter, I couldn't believe my ears, imagine that poor girls life growing up and this woman serves the community, makes me glad I don't live in her county. Here's an idea, how about a show that rewards good behavior? There are alot of people who keep a clean house, yard. That dress well but could use a new wardrobe. People who could use a new closet system, or appliance to help make their efforts easy. I think people are tired of seeing train wrecks all the time. Thank you for your time, Cal
