What Should I Pack for My Tropical Vacay?

I'm going on an island getaway. What clothing, shoes, accessories and beauty products should I pack?

Let's assume that you're not going on a Costa Rica turtle-spying-type trek and are instead heading for the cabin of a little yacht for a sail around the Leeward Islands. Fair enough. First of all, pack light. Unless you're making the formal European jet-set rounds and need a few ball gowns, you should be able to fit everything into one reasonably sized roll-a-bag. Yes, really.
Your essentials include:
• One or two light, machine-washable cotton dresses. Do not spend a ton of cash on these dresses, as jerk chicken sauce can be murder on high fashion. There's no reason not to head to Gap to find something colorful and easygoing. There's no guilt in rolling them up in your bag to create space.
• Please, please keep your fine jewelry at home. I never leave for vacation with my gigantic diamond engagement ring; my simple wedding band is enough to keep most of the tigers away, and the thieves. Use this trip as an excuse to bring out your most colorful and carefree costume jewelry. Pick two pairs of fun earrings and switch back and forth throughout the week; throw in an outrageous cuff or bangle and you're done. We don't need to see the layered-necklace look out in the middle of nowhere.
• Flats, flats, flats. Slide in a pair of flat metallic sandals and they'll take you from day to night to day again.
• Beauty products. You need very few, believe me. A drop of Belegenza anti-frizz, plenty of sunscreen for your skin and hair, maybe a favorite scrub or bath soak for night, and that should do you.
Remember: You are there to see the Caribbean, not the other way around!
