Ask Thom: When to Paper the Walls and Paint the Ceiling?

I've noticed that you are a fan of wall coverings and painting the ceilings. What is the secret?

I tend to use wallpaper in a small room like a powder room to make it seem a little bit more dramatic and, at the same time, warm the space up.
As far as painting ceilings goes, it all depends on what you want to achieve in the space. If you want the ceiling to disappear and feel light and airy, go with China white. It's white with a little bit of gray and will make the ceiling look crisp and cool. If you want the ceiling to feel integrated into a design, it's always nice to go with a tint of blue. If you really want to go bold, I always lean toward a saturated charcoal. It'll make the ceiling recede and highlight the grid of the coffers.

4. Hi Thom, im from South Africa and i enjoy watching your show. It's really exciting to watch and it inspires people to do what you do in their own homes and also gives them lots of ideas and stuff *** the end result of every home make-over that you do is stunning.its just too nice.i love every one of them. 5. Dear Tom, I am a fan of your show and watch it at all time. I am looking to achieve a modern look in a doctor's clinic...My ideal colors are the earthy colors but still not sure which ones suits the business. I am looking to have dark leather furniture, and chrome/glass desk/tables...Does that sounds good to you? I am not sure if I can use wallpapers or just paint the walls. Does the concrete floor goes with that or I just use ceramic? Your help feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks, jab
