mystyle: The Fashionable Housewife

Sarah-Jean Ballard never understood why mothers didn't take better care of themselves. Her own mom was very stylish, and had a consignment store where as a young girl Sarah would watch frumpy mothers buy beautiful clothing for their children. Later in life, she decided to help these women by creating The Fashionable Housewife.
The blog is full of steals and deals that will help women look and feel fabulous without breaking the bank. After Sarah became a mom herself two years ago, she expanded the Fashionable Media network into The Fashionable Bambino to blog about all her new baby finds. And recently she's added The Fashionable Gal to help young adults look just as chic on a dime.
For fall, Sarah recommends both moms and students alike try the over-the-knee and thigh-high boot trend. "Pair them with some tights and a skirt or dress or throw them on with skinny jeans or ponte knit pants," she explains. Just make sure those pants aren't too low. "The biggest fashion 'don't' that I see all too often is visible thongs," Sarah says. "Pull your pants up, people!"
And don't even think about doing double denim. That's one trend the blogger says nobody should attempt.

How would you describe your style?
My style is mostly eclectic, a mix of contemporary and edgy boho. While I favor bohemian and vintage-inspired trends, I also enjoy modern and urban styles on occasion. It really depends on my mood! My favorite brands are probably Free People and Banana Republic.
What should every fashionable housewife have for fall?
Purple is always a great color to wear in fall. But this year a great pair of purple shoes are a must. Look for deep tones like eggplant and plum. I recommend the Naot Trendy in Peacock patent leather.
What should every fashionable student have for fall?
If you don't have a pair of ripped jeans already, make sure you get a pair before fall. You can wear them tucked into tall boots or rolled up "boyfriend style" with flats, ankle boots and booties. Complement this easygoing style with a structured top and a blazer.
What are you wearing in your photo?
Free People top, LEI skirt, Aerosoles shoes, Betsey Johnson sunglasses, Avon earrings.

1. I'm actually a fashion student, I came across the an awesome website called myshape.com for fashionable housewives and stylish students. For girls on the run, you can set up your own Personal Shop and have all the clothes fit to your shape. It's a pretty neat concept and just in time for busy moms and students like me who don't have time to shop when hitting the books this Fall semester.
