Soiree Style: Madison & Diavolina Launch
Fri., Oct. 16, 2009 1:41 PM PDT by Danielle Datu
Last night, I attended the Madison & Diavolina launch party in Los Angeles hosted by Current/Elliott designers Meritt Elliott and Emily Current. It was a chance to do some feel-good shopping (a portion of the evening's sales went to Susan G. Komen for the Cure). But the real reason I stopped by was to see my girl crush Mandy Moore.
The singer showed up wearing a pumpkin-orange Isabel Marant printed dress and black cutout Miu Miu heels. Cute! "I didn't put much thought into it," the California casual fashionista said of her outfit. She did, however, have fall fashion on the brain. "I've got my eye on the fall accessories. I'm a big scarf girl."
After our brief but amazing conversation (she's so sweet!), I thought I would be stalking Mandy's every move. Instead, I found myself marveling at two unexpected style mavens the rest of the night.
I couldn't help but notice that a brunette, who turned out to be Sea of Love jewelry designer Alison Malter, looked as if she had on the same nude Kimberly Ovitz long-sleeve mini that both Chloë Sevigny and Eliza Dushku recently wore. I just had to ask, and it was! Personally, I think she styled it better than the stars with her black Elizabeth and James pony hair booties.
As I continued to circle the room sipping on a Pinky Vodka cocktail and munching on a mini Crumbs cupcake, I couldn't believe my eyes! I spotted someone else wearing an "It" dress—or so I thought. Hat and headband designer Phoebe Price was wearing a sequined dress that had a strong shoulder and one sleeve, similar to that of the sparkly Brian Lichtenberg number that's been seen on Paris Hilton and Katie Cassidy. The only difference was that it was in a brighter blue. I went up to the celeb wannabe (she's almost always on the red carpet!) to find out the dress' designer. She said it was J. Marks. Ah, well. It was close enough. And despite the matchy-matchy thing she had going on, I really liked the way her floral hair accessory balanced the frock's bold shoulder.
