Chapeau Chic

Style Scene

With the winter chill still settling into our bones, hats are a stylish way to keep warm. But how do you choose from among the extensive variety? The team at Canalé Salon in Beverly  Hills reveals what style of cap matches your hairdo.

Lindsay Lohan

Casual Newsboy Cap
"This is the ideal out-and-about day hat," says hair stylist Candice Birns. It looks best with loose long locks like Lindsay Lohan's.

Valuable Tip: Since hats can make you sweat, Birns recommends pulling bangs to one side to avoid pimples.

Get the look: Spritz  your hair with Bumble and bumble Surf Spray for soft waves; $26. Then slip on Christy's houndstooth newsboy; $54.

Stacy Keibler

Glam Girl Fedora
"This is a dressier hat, so it looks best when your hair is done," says hairstylist Briar Strate. She recommends adding a slight curl to the bottom of a blow out, as Stacy Keibler did here.

Valuable Tip: Fedoras work great for night. Strate says it's the perfect accessory to add a little sass to your getup.

Get the look: For glossy shine, work Kérastase's serum through hair before blowdrying; $34. Finish off with Arden B's Tuxedo fedora; $38.

Sharon Stone

Sophisticated Berets
This is a regal look," says Candice Birns. "It's great for evening and looks best with short cuts like Sharon Stone's." If you have longer hair, she recommends styling your hair into a side pony bun.

Valuable Tip: When making a pony bun, make sure you tie your hair to the opposite side that you're wearing the beret for a symmetrical look.

Get the look: Create texture for short hair with Shu Umura's shape paste; $30. Pull Nordstrom's wool beret to one side; $22.

Jessica Alba

Bad Hair Day Beanie
"This is the perfect wash-and-go hat," says Strate. "You can wear it with your hair down, or with your hair tucked under the hat."

Valuable Tip: When your hair is tucked under, always make sure pieces show in front. Strate says this also holds true if you are wearing your hair down and have a long face like Jessica Alba.

Get the look: Spray a dab of Davines hairspray on your hand and pull through hair for long lasting hold; $25. Top it off with Urban Outfitter's cozy cable knit beanie; $14.99.
