You've got a successful career as a singer and/or actress and/or or model and/or reality TV star, so what are you going to do next? Why, become a brand, of course! While some celebs don't mind shilling for other people's products, especially if these goods mesh with their own philosophy (think Jennifer Aniston and SmartWater), others prefer to go out on an entrepreneurial limb.
Case in point: Jessica Simpson, whose swimwear collection made its debut Saturday at Miami's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The line includes teensy bikinis (of course!) and conservative one-piece suits (surprising!) and features florals, polka dots and frills. Oh-so-girly, just like Jessica.
The aspiring mogul, who wore a super-tiny outfit with a beachwear feel (above, left) to the after-party (get the details from E! Online's Party Girl), was reportedly super-involved. She had a hand in designing the suits and choosing the models—and she even helped out backstage before the show. (A confession: We find it hard to imagine Jessica doling out sticky tape for errant boobs!)
In between the CDs, reality TV show, movies and tabloid headlines, Jessica's already managed to put out a line of lickable skincare products, affordable clothing and shoes, and a fragrance is slated for 2008. So what's next—a Jessica Simpson karaoke machine? A pink convertible or town house, just like Barbie's?
