Ask Thom: How to Make My Mantel Pop?
Wed., Jun. 24, 2009 7:00 PM PDT by Staff
I love this chocolate brown wall color, but my corner fireplace mantel is brown wood, and it disappears. I know I could paint the mantel, but I really don't want to paint it white (the color of my moldings). Got any suggestions?

It would be really pretty to paint the mantel a darker color, like a really handsome black. Yes, a black light-gloss finish would be perfect. It would make the fireplace pop from the brown and connect with the firebox.
