My new place has a living room with a fireplace and vaulted ceilings. I love color, so I would love to paint the room. What colors would make it airy and spacious? I am thinking of getting a cream-colored leather sectional—not sure if that should influence my wall color.

I love olive green and would like to use it in my bedroom. I would like to know two things: 1. Can I incorporate silky (shiny) material with a plain matte linen? and 2. What colors go well with olive green?

I've noticed that you are a fan of wall coverings and painting the ceilings. What is the secret?

Colleen's Living Room

My house is traditional, but I wanted to go a bit more contemporary with the new furniture I recently bought. How can I accessorize my room to pull it all together?

I live in a home that was built in 1945, and the closets are minuscule. Any suggestions for stylish storage solutions? Please don't say baskets as I have a dog (a Jack Russell terrierist) who's a jumper (shelving units, forget about it) and adores chewing things like that. Thanks!

The small bedroom that I will be moving into with my boyfriend has only one window, which happens to be facing a wall. In turn, the bedroom is very dark. What can I do to make the room brighter and what should I do with the window?

A few months ago, I bought this solid light green comforter. Now I am redoing my room and I have no idea where to begin! I want my room to be cool and inspirational, but I can't find any wall colors to match with it. Also, I'm at a loss when it comes to accent colors in the room.

Jenny's Bedroom

What color should I paint my bedroom, which has birch veneer furniture? I was thinking slate gray. I'm also not sure about the bathroom walls, but the color should go with the bedroom in case the door is open. Ideally, both colors would complement red accents.

Callie's Living Room

I love this chocolate brown wall color, but my corner fireplace mantel is brown wood, and it disappears. I know I could paint the mantel, but I really don't want to paint it white (the color of my moldings). Got any suggestions?

Laurie's Dining Table
Thom Filicia

I have a black dining table with red leather accents in a room with green walls. Should I go for black chairs with white seats or black chairs with red seats? I feel if I go for white, they will look like they don't belong to the table. Would red be too colorful?

My colonial windows in the bedroom are placed so close together that the king-size bed overlaps them quite a bit and it just looks dumb. It's a medium-height chocolate headboard of wooden bars and there is no other place to stick it. Can you suggest some type of window treatment that might soften the impact...without darkening the room?

Allison's Great Room
Thom Filicia

My husband and I have been married for just over four years and have two small kids. We just bought our first house, but want it to feel like our home. We spend all our time in the great room. I'm a stay-at-home mom so I spend a lot of time there. We have a big brown couch, a huge gold TV thing (that I love), and a diagonal fireplace (that I hate). How do I make it all work?

Krista's Couch
Thom Filicia

My husband and I have a gold 90" x 90" chenille sectional couch, which we bought hoping it would hide dog hair. After three years, I still haven't found the right paint, ottoman or area rug. The couch is in our small den (11' x 11'). What wall color will complement the couch without making the room too dark? I want it to be cozy and comfortable.
