Dania Ramirez:

We caught up with Dania Ramirez at Backstage Creation's Celebrity Retreat at the ALMA Awards to talk fashion…

What She's Stylin': I chose this yellow Pamella Roland dress because I love the color against my skin and I wanted something flowy, really classy and chiffon. I kept it youthful with Neil Lane jewelry.

Must-Have Beauty Product: I love the new LashBlast mascara from CoverGirl. I have it on right now. It lasts all day, it's easy and I love the packaging. You can go from day to night with it. It's so small that you can just toss it in your bag and reapply if you need to.

Guilty Pleasure: I'm a chocolate lover. My absolute favorite is Patchi chocolates. I tried the dark chocolate with the hazelnut cream inside, and oh my god!

Fall Fashion Fave: I can't wait to wear open-toe booties when it gets colder. They are so stylish!

Southern food, fresh and simple, is enjoyed throughout the United States. It's rich, filling and aromatic—but often not so healthy. Anything buttered, smothered, battered or fried adds extra calories that lead to overweight. But Southern food can be made healthier without surrendering that down-home taste.

Whether it's soul food, Creole, Cajun or barbecue, the bottom line is: Cut the Fat. Your food choices and cooking techniques can make all the difference between a healthy dish and an unhealthy one.

Anna Faris
Style Scene

Last night I had a choice of sitting home and watching Sex and The City: The Movie yet again on HBO or attending a handbag launch and a Malibu Rum cocktail party. Clearly it was a no-brainer. So I slipped on one of the new dresses I bought at Giuliana Rancic's wardrobe sale (love being the same size as talent selling Gucci and Valentino!) and headed over to Mondrian's Skybar for Zara Terez Zimmerman's West Coast Handbag Launch.

Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer Express

Every summer, celebrities flock to Malibu for beach parties galore. Some indulge in serious gifting, while others kick back and sip cocktails with friends. Last weekend, I stopped by the Silver Spoon Beach House for a little bit of both. But for the first time in a while, I actually enjoyed the drinks more than the swag or celebrity sightings. (Lindsay Lohan's pizza box photo-op just didn't do it for me). A server kept handing me a green concoction that was the perfect blend of sweet with a little spice. The lime-jalapeño cocktail tasted so healthy, I was shocked to discover it contained alcohol. I just had to have the recipe so I could whip it up for my staycation bash. It was made using Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer Express ($99.98), perfect for my small apartment.

Ingredients
10 whole limes
1 bunch mint
1 cup agave
6 cups of water, purified
1/2 jalapeño
Place all ingredients into the juicer, juice and pour into a pitcher. Simultaneously pour one shot of vodka into a cup with the juice. Add a cocktail straw, because ingredients can separate.

Beginner's Guide to Cake Decorating Book (cover)

Instead of dishing out $25 for a class, why not gather up your friends and schedule weekly retreats in each person's home? If someone in the group is a yoga enthusiast, have her teach a class in the backyard. Towels can be substituted for yoga mats if you're stretched out on the grass. Know an artist? She can give a painting lesson. Your local art store should have an inexpensive set of paints to get everyone started. Cake decorating can also be a blast. Purchase an inexpensive book, like Beginner's Guide to Cake Decorating ($12.44), and hold a cooking retreat right in the comfort of your own kitchen. And don't forget to save us a slice, too!

LAVO Chef Ralph's Grilled Asparagus with Prosciutto and Lemon

You don't need to spend all your frequent flier miles to taste exotic cuisine. Instead, plan a global potluck party during your summer staycation. Ask guests to bring a dish that represents their favorite far-off destination—or assign everyone a different country if you're worried about a dinner table full of coq au vin, cassoulet and éclairs. You can order a bag of international flag toothpicks to send out with the invites.

To get you started, we have this Italian recipe from Chef Ralph Scamardella, the executive chef of Las Vegas hot spot Lavo. Buon appetito!

Mary Hartley

Mary Hartley, M.P.H., R.D., is CalorieCount.About.com's resident nutrition expert. Read on for her guest post about dealing with summer temptations, and be sure to check back here soon for more of her healthy insights.

Summer is the best time to lose weight. Plentiful produce is a bargain, and eating lightly just feels right. But summer is also time for cookouts, parties and carnivals, each offering opportunities to break the calorie bank.

To lose weight, we must eat fewer calories than we burn. Knowing the calorie impact of foods can make the difference between losing weight and not. The trick is to choose interesting foods that are low in calories and tasty, too. Consider the best and worst options at some popular summer destinations:

Cookouts and Barbecues
Problem: Large portions of fatty meat
Fat is "marbled" throughout the meat, so we might not even see it. And nearly everyone eats larger potions than they should. Fix the problem by choosing fish, shellfish and chicken in smaller servings, or buy fresh low-fat sausages at fine food markets. Veggie burgers, sliced tofu and vegetables also grill well. (Note: The meats listed here are in 6-ounce portions, although 3- to 4-ounce portions are enough for most people.)

Grilled rib-eye steak, 6 oz: 500 calories
Grilled tuna, 6 oz: 312 calories
Shrimp skewers, 6 oz: 120 calories

Here's what caught our eye on the Web this week:

Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy have more in common than love for pussy bow coats and white dresses: both first ladies only go faux when it comes to fur. (Washington Times)

In nonhumane news, Hermès is supposedly breeding crocodiles to make more Birkin bags. (Hollywood Life)

Designer Vera Wang may be Dancing With the Stars next season. (E! Online)

Eating healthy is a little easier thanks to this blogging dietician's daily photo diary. (Washington Post)

Kristen Stewart chops off her looks to channel Joan Jett for an even more grungy look. (Slash Film)

Emma Watson might be one of our favorite faces of Burberry yet. (NY Mag)

Stella McCartney joins up with Gap Kids and babyGap. Gwyneth Paltrow must by psyched to dress Apple and Moses in one of her fave designers. (WWD)

The latest celebrity turned fashion designer is Courtney Love. We're trying to think of ways to turn her back. (People)
