When your boss tells you, "We will be going to New York Fashion Week and the VMAs this weekend," you kinda go into shock. Crazy things start to go through your head: What do I pack? Will I get kicked out because my jacket is not designer? Last time I was in NYC, I had a girlfriend. (Yes, that long ago.) I could not believe I was going for work. What a dream!
The energy in New York City during Fashion Week is so difficult to put into words! It is like everyone is having their own surprise party. The weeks of outfit planning, the travel plans, the anticipation of viewing the designers' new collections strutting down the runway—it is all so intense! I must note that I am not the most fashion-forward guy; my favorite outfit is a simple white V-neck T-shirt, dark denim jeans and really, really cool-fierce shoes. Oh, wait…darn! I was doing so well until I got to the shoe part. I guess I am into fashion, but aren't we all in some way ?
On Friday afternoon in sunny L.A., Giuliana and I caught the 4 p.m. direct flight to NYC, which meant we didn't land till 12:30 a.m. the next day. Thankfully the flight was smooth, and there were no plane nerves for G. We stayed at the Trump International Hotel, located across from Central Park. (I know what you are thinking: Did Bill get us a good deal because of his Apprentice days? Answer: Yes!) The hotel is awesome and very homey! Great location, best service, and they even give you yummy cookies by your bedside every night. (Yes, people eat during Fashion Week.)

Watch the clip to see Giuliana work on her fear of flying, then keep reading for Matthew's travel tips!
Giuliana Rancic hates flying.
She has her routine: First, she walks past the cockpit and checks out the pilots. I don't know why—maybe to see if they are sleeping or something—but she does it every time, and it makes her feel better. Once in her seat, she does tend to relax...until the pilot comes on the loudspeaker telling us to buckle up because we'll be experiencing a "bumpy ride." That is when the "Get me off the plane!" look comes out, and it stays on through takeoff and her silent prayers until we hit 10,000 feet. Once in the high skies she settles down again. But if turbulence starts, her whole demeanor changes. The bumpier the ride, the worse it gets. I have seen her cry, shake and clench my arm as if she were slipping off a cliff. (She is very particular about her airplanes, too. She likes big ones, the bigger the better.)
I give Giuliana a lot of credit; despite her fear, she's on a plane almost every weekend, flying to see Bill or to do a red carpet in New York.
With all the flights Giuliana and I have taken together over the years, I have learned some terrific travel tips. If you are afraid of flying—or if you're always jetting from one city to the next—keep reading for my favorites!

The gay husband. How does one describe such a person? We are usually gym rats, stylish, loyal, witty and—most importantly—very blunt. We are the guys you hang out with when your straight and legal husband is out of town. We are the guys you cry to when going through a bad breakup, and the ones who tell you what not to wear.
A gay husband is not the easiest man to find; you have to click with each other! (You must find one who won't just make you go to gay bar and dance on top of a box to the latest Britney song.) You will know when you meet your right gay husband because you will both want to make each other better people. In a way, it's like finding a girl best friend who won't go off and steal your boyfriend or borrow your clothes and not return them. Think Will and Grace, or Carrie and Stanford from Sex and the City.

First came the guest list. Giuliana has a huge family, and Bill knows the entire city of Chicago, so it looked like this was not going to be your average destination wedding.
The invitations, the flowers, the bridesmaid dresses, the gift bags, the band, the church, the tablecloths, the chair covers, the candles, the tuxes, the shoes, the makeup, the hair, the hotels, the flights…the list went on and on. This was the most important day of Giuliana's life, and I was a nervous wreck. I wanted it to be perfect.

My little cubicle was smack-dab in front of Giuliana's office when I started at E! News. I was assisting the executive producer at the time, running around the newsroom, making coffee, passing out reminders to do time cards. And I remember the first time I saw Giuliana in person. (She is much taller in real life.) I was so nervous about meeting her—I had been watching her on TV since her platinum-blond days. She has a Madonna presence about her (the singer, that is), and I think that is why I was such a big fan. I introduced myself to her, and she was nice to me from the very start.
Months passed, and eventually she was looking for an assistant. I jumped at the opportunity. Soon I was hitting the red carpets with her and heading to big-time movie premieres. It was a dream.

Wrigley Field
Nothing better than a Cubs game on a gorgeous Chicago day. The field also has special meaning to me, since this is the first place I brought Giuliana when she came to Chicago for the first time. We met up with a bunch of friends and sat in the bleachers drinking beer and eating hot dogs. It was a blast!
Carmine's Restaurant
I love sitting outside with G on Rush Street at this delicious Italian restaurant. We come here all the time for the great food and authentic Chicago ambiance. We love to people-watch from our table, and we always run into friends and end up spending ours drinking red wine and eating pasta. The best!
Sunday Run on the Lake
Every Sunday, G and I go to Oak Street Beach and head north for our weekly one-hour run. The energy is great, and it's the perfect way to see Chicago and get fit at the same time.
Carlucci Italian Restaurant
When we are in the suburbs visiting my family, we always eat here. We get a big table and invite lots of family and friends and have the best time. It's our favorite restaurant in the city.
Motorcycle Ride
We jump on my motorcycle at least once a week and head to a new restaurant for dinner. We always pick a place that will require a long ride with a scenic route.

Santa Monica Catholic Church
Santa Monica
Bill and I are both Catholic and go to church every Sunday. We have been truly blessed and feel it is important to be grateful for what we have and show our gratitude every day of our lives.
Nobu Sushi Restaurant
Malibu
We had our first date here. It was on a Sunday night; he picked me up at 6 p.m., and we had a long, great drive down Pacific Coast Highway on the edge of the ocean to Nobu. We each knew we had met our match on this date.
Casa del Mar Hotel
Santa Monica
Before our date at Nobu, Bill and I stopped here for a cocktail. We hit it off instantly. Within an hour, we were both looking at our BlackBerrys and making plans for six months out. Bill and I pass the hotel on our weekly runs, and we always look up at it and give each other a pat on the back and a smile. It's a great memory.
AMC Cinemas
Century City
Bill and I love to throw on our sweats and head out to a movie on Sunday nights. This theater is in a great mall with a killer food court. They have delicious brown rice sushi that we carry out and eat during the movie. Beats the calories in popcorn! Yummy!
Yogurtland
Hollywood
We go to the La Brea location, where we prepare our own frozen yogurt. We love the fro-yo!

The Style Network's newest reality stars, Bill and Giuliana Rancic, were spotted indulging in a little healthy competition at Lucky Strike bowling alley in Hollywood yesterday. Although both looked fiercely determined to win, we have to admit: We were initially on Team Bill. How on earth was Giuliana going to knock over any pins in that itty-bitty dress and those gladiator wedges? We'd be too scared to bend over.
But after doing some digging, we're happy to report that the E! News host did in fact change into the same maroon-and-olive sneakers seen on hubby Bill when it was her turn to bowl. We knew G wasn't going to let anything ruin her shot at bragging rights!
To see more of the modern-day power couple, come back Tuesday, when we'll share exclusive pics from their beautiful Capri wedding and highlight their red carpet fashions.
Then tune into Style Wednesday, August 5, at 9/8c, to watch more of the dynamic duo's antics on the series premiere of Giuliana & Bill.
