The boho-chic fad calls for generous knits in soft, whimsical shapes. "Try a snazzy beret," stylist Corinne Phipps suggests, "or a cool Kangol."
In keeping with these recessionary times, I offer you a fun, relaxed knit beret for all of $12.99, at Pink Ice.

We usually avoid the dreaded hat head at all costs, but we're reconsidering after seeing stars like Christina Aguilera and Jessica Alba in their knit beanies. The cap can invoke a look that's urban chic or Parisian sophisticate. Plus, decorating it with pins to complement your outfit is loads of fun. Try a girly garnish or sassy sparkle—and show some hair underneath to give the rugged headpiece a healthy dose of feminine flair.

Leave it to Paris Hilton to jump on a trend before it has left the station. Surprisingly, the heiress successfully pulled off an outrageous hat (gasp!) perhaps better than Sarah Jessica Parker. The matchy-matchy handbag and Marc Jacobs dress even works for us—after all, she's in Victoria "Miss Monochromatic" Beckham's home country. Lose that silly stance Paris, and we might just give you a Shout-Out.

I live in a hippie city. What sort of hat should I wear?
—Savannah, Santa Cruz, California
Far out, man. But before I turn you hip to a hat, know this: The term "hippie" has evolved, or perhaps I should say, devolved, since its introduction several decades ago. "Hippie" used to refer to a specific type of youth counterculture marked by long hair and flowing or multi-ethnic clothes, and punctuated by either a nature-inspired palette or a psychedelic one.

We're taking our hats off to stars like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson for looking so sexy in what's widely considered a men's accessory: the fedora. "Fedoras give a woman a sassy, confident air," says image consultant Eve Michaels. "They are mostly for casual fun, but can be worn dressy if the fabric is elegant." Regardless, be sure to pair the eye-catching topper with a clean and tailored silhouette.

With the winter chill still settling into our bones, hats are a stylish way to keep warm. But how do you choose from among the extensive variety? The team at Canalé Salon in Beverly Hills reveals what style of cap matches your hairdo.
Casual Newsboy Cap
"This is the ideal out-and-about day hat," says hair stylist Candice Birns. It looks best with loose long locks like Lindsay Lohan's.
Valuable Tip: Since hats can make you sweat, Birns recommends pulling bangs to one side to avoid pimples.
Get the look: Spritz your hair with Bumble and bumble Surf Spray for soft waves; $26. Then slip on Christy's houndstooth newsboy; $54.
Glam Girl Fedora
"This is a dressier hat, so it looks best when your hair is done," says hairstylist Briar Strate. She recommends adding a slight curl to the bottom of a blow out, as Stacy Keibler did here.
Valuable Tip: Fedoras work great for night. Strate says it's the perfect accessory to add a little sass to your getup.
Get the look: For glossy shine, work Kérastase's serum through hair before blowdrying; $34. Finish off with Arden B's Tuxedo fedora; $38.
