You don't need to blow your budget to get lusciously soft locks. Simple ingredients you already have at home can provide salon-quality results for pennies!

Combine olive oil and a few drops of your favorite essential oil in an airtight container.

If your hair is dry, gently massage one tablespoon of oil into your scalp and the ends of your hair, cover with a shower cap and let it soak in for several minutes before shampooing out.

For oily hair, apply to ends only and shampoo out immediately.

Want to clarify your hair and remove buildup? Here's a great weekly treatment to turn up the volume: In the palm of your hand, mix a small amount of baking soda with your shampoo and scrub well.

If you need a stronger one-time boost, apply tons of baking soda directly to your hair and scalp first, then shampoo. Follow up with weekly maintenance treatments.

Love the indulgence of the spa, but looking to save your pennies? Pamper yourself on a budget with this luxurious shower scrub!

Home Spa Shower Scrub
3/4 C olive oil
3 or 4 drops of your favorite essential oil
1 C sugar or salt
Mix well and store in an airtight container. Depending on your preference, you can add a little more olive oil or salt/sugar until your scrub reaches the desired consistency. Apply generously to soften and exfoliate skin—especially important before applying self-tanner.

You don't need a pricey designer toner to keep yourself feeling fresh. Raid the medicine cabinet and make your own!

Homemade Astringent
1 part distilled water
2 parts witch hazel
2 drops tea tree oil
Mix in a spray or squeeze bottle. Apply to your face with a cotton ball and whisk away the day's shine and grime.

Can't resist the siren song of a golden glow come summertime? We all know the dangers of prolonged exposure to sunlight, so baking in the backyard slathered in baby oil is a definite don't! Self-tanners have come a long way from their orangey origins, and we've got some tips to make them even more effective.

  1. Choose a light color to start—it's easier to add layers of color than it is to lighten a too-dark tan.
  2. Exfoliate your whole body with homemade shower scrub, then apply moisturizer to your rough spots.
  3. Slowly, evenly apply tanner to your whole body, avoiding your face. (Use a bronzer there instead.)
  4. Rinse your hands, using a loofah if you have to—orange palms are a dead giveaway!
  5. Use a warm washcloth to wipe off your knees, elbows and around your toenails—this is where lotion tends to settle in and stain.
  6. Wear dark, loose clothing for the next few hours to keep stains at bay.
  7. Do your best to avoid sweating for 24 hours or you'll streak.
  8. Apply your tanner early in the morning and then shower right before bed that night. After all, your sheets don't need a tan.
  9. Remember your sunblock to keep skin damage at bay! A faux tan doesn't provide any protection from the sun's harmful rays.

Self-Tanner Warning: Don't get it on your hair or your hair might turn orange. And don't apply every day, because then your whole body will turn orange!
