Dressing for work can be a headache and a half, especially these days when companies confuse their employees with phrases like "corporate casual" and "general business attire." That's why Jennifer Gregory and Melissa McGraw started Workchic last year. "It takes the stress out of getting dressed for work," they explain of their blog, which offers suggested outfits, fit guidelines and tips and tricks on how to look professional, feminine and chic.
Both women describe their personal style as "workchic with a twist." Melissa loves adding accessories to her skirts and dresses, while Jennifer has fun experimenting with printed blouses over pants and ballet flats. Since they are both curvy and on the petite side, the blogging duo has found that "A-line skirts and dresses, wrap dresses, and pants with a wider leg tend to work best." But A-line silhouettes work across the board, they add. "The shape is universally flattering whether you are petite and curvy or tall and curvy. They also help disguise a troubled midsection."
Melissa and Jennifer recommend dressing for the job you want, not the job you currently have. But they still want you to be comfortable during your climb to the top. "You want to stick with a 1-inch to a 2½-inch heel. That will make it more comfortable to walk in." Read on to hear their suggestions for where to find such shoes, as well as more Workchic secrets.

I want to know which style wedding dress looks good on the different body types?
—Jennifer Y., Fort Worth, Texas
It's pretty easy to find a perfect wedding dress for everyone. In fact, the knowledge that I'm about to drop can also apply to bridesmaid dresses.
When all else fails, there's the A-line. An A-line dress (also known among the more condescending designers as the "princess") skims curves without hugging too tightly, highlights the good parts and, in essence, flatters almost anyone. Some guides warn that A-lines don't work for women who lack defined waistlines, but in practice, that's not always the case. Plenty of plus-sized gowns by JS Boutique and other designers feature an A-line silhouette.

While promoting their new movie, The Spirit, in London last week, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes proved you can look sexy without being overtly suggestive. Instead of flaunting their cleavage, the curvy costars relied on '50s silhouettes to showcase their womanly figures.
Any body type can benefit from the cinched waist and full skirt of these retro-style dresses, especially pear shapes (it hides all your bottom-half problems). On the petite side? Follow Scarlett's lead and keep your frock above the knee. If you have more of an athletic build, stay away from Eva's off-the-shoulder neckline and wear V-necks, like the DVF splurge in the gallery below.
And don't forget fabulous footwear, like Scarlett's Brian Atwood stilettos with orange rosettes. We're happy to resurrect '50s dresses, but saddle shoes are best left in the past.

Every season, the little black dress gets a makeover. This fall, one of the most popular styles only has one sleeve. We've seen the single arm before (think Penélope Cruz circa 2000) and because it flatters most body types, we're happy to welcome it back.
Toned petites like Jada Pinkett Smith benefit from belted styles, which create an hourglass shape. Mothers-to-be take pleasure in the comfort of stretchy Lycra, as seen with Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein. And full-figured women, like Queen Latifah, enjoy the slimming effect of asymmetry. (The silhouette forces the eye to move down and across the body and not focus on one point.) If you're self-conscious about your arms, you can achieve a similar slip-of-skin feel with an off-the-shoulder or split-sleeve dress.
Shop for the look in the gallery below. We found two dresses especially tailored for full-figured women.

First, SJP's shimmering gray Nina Ricci gave us case of déjà vu. And now, Monique Lhuillier's gunmetal strapless is making us do a triple take! Why is this frock so hot? A belted waist and roomier skirt flatters most body types, while the color adds an edgy flair to the feminine silhouette. And Lhuillier's knee-length style works especially well on petites. All three of the actresses seen above are 5-foot-3 and under!
Can you guess which shorter stars shined tall and bright? Keep reading for the answer.

Whether she's working the rink or the dance floor, Dancing with the Stars champ Kristi Yamaguchi looks good in sequins. But during her off time, she dresses to impress as well.
I notice you always wear lipstick. Is that your beauty trick?
I'm always worried that I don't have lipstick on or I need more, because growing up my mom was always reminding me and my sister, "You need lipstick!" So it's kind of a joke in my family.
Your body is so tiny! What have you found that looks good for your shape?
I try to go for more form-fitting clothes since I'm short as well. For lengthening, I wear a lot of solid colors and try not to break up the body too much.
Is there anything petite women like you should never wear?
Too much fabric.

Jimmy Choo handbag; $1,850.

For months now, it's been all about the belt. We've seen skinny ones, fabric versions and even options for shorter women. Since the trend isn't going anywhere, you might as well invest in more of the accessory. Petite? Layer a wide belt over a flowy dress. Pear shapes: stay monochromatic to avoid splitting up your uneven halves. But that doesn't mean you need to stick with brown or black. Just take a look at Alice + Olivia's sunny belted frock. Long and lean? Stick to an extra-wide corset belt over a slim pencil skirt or fitted dress to create curves. Now, go on and show off those waists!
