Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige has always been music royalty. A fashion heavyweight? Not so much. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has had more than her fair share of terrible red carpet looks. Remember the loud fur coats, head-to-toe leopard and leather catsuits? It didn't help that her then-road dog was big-time style sinner Lil' Kim.

The singer's taste in fashion has since gotten a lot more sophisticated, no doubt thanks in part to BFF designer Catherine Malandrino. During the Fashion Group International's 26th Annual Night of Stars gala last night, Mary looked sensational in a black Gucci halter gown. And after years of over-the-top dressing, the chanteuse kept things simple with a cropped blond 'do and glowing skin. No More Drama, indeed!

Jennifer Aniston
Style Shout-out

What's this? Jennifer Aniston on the red carpet wearing something other than black? You know we had to give her a shout-out!

The actress ventured outside of her comfort zone with the shimmery gray Valentino minidress and matching Christian Louboutin gladiator heels she wore to the L.A. premiere of her new movie, Love Happens. OK, gray is like two shades away from black, but at least the girl is trying! Plus, she looks red hot.

Rachel Bilson
Style Shout-out

Express threw a stylish soiree at Nobu last week to promote their TXT L8TR Campaign. A long-haired Ciara fronts the text-free-focused driving PSAs, but at the party, a newly cropped Ciara ditched the campaign tee for an incredibly low-cut Marchesa jumpsuit. In person, we thought she looked hot. In pictures? The drama didn't translate.

Speaking of pics, the minute Paris and Nicky arrived fashionably late, there were so many flashes you could barely see the delicious sushi and lychee martinis being passed around. While the Hilton sisters made a look-at-me statement in sparkles and studs, other guests like Mandy Moore and Molly Sims went for a more relaxed feel in jeans, black boots and simple white tees.

But our fave fashionista of the night was Rachel Bilson. Keep reading to find out how to get her cool, laid-back party look for less!

Beyonce Knowles
Style Shout-out

OK, so the Balmain dress was a little short. But this is Beyoncé we're talking about! Plus, the BET Awards calls for added shock value. The colorful sequined pattern and matching Lorraine Schwartz malachite green hoops kept B's look young, while the bold shoulders added some high fashion edge.

Abigail Breslin
Style Shout-out

It was nice to see Abigail Breslin trade in her jeans and sneakers for a sparkly dress and feminine bow heels for the premiere of her new flick, My Sister's Keeper. Like her costar, Cameron Diaz, the 13-year-old sure cleans up nicely. But she blooms nicely as well. We don't remember having that much cleavage in junior high! But then again, we don't remember attending red carpet events, either.

Camille Belle
Style Shout-out

Last night's Whitney Contemporaries Art Party and Auction was presented by BCBG Max Azria. Like last year, many actresses showed off their curves in the company's infamous Hervé Léger bandage dresses. But Camilla Belle was the sexiest guest of all, thank to her understated display of skin. Flirty ruffles cascaded down her Max Azria dress, ending in a slight slit that showed off legs that would leave anyone green with envy. The gray pumps and matching silver smoky eye added a bit of mystery to the soft, sensual look.

Taylor Swift
Style Shout-out

We can always count on Taylor Swift to impress us on the red carpet. Instead of relying on old-fashioned Southern sequins, the young singer took a modern approach at the CMT Awards with a shimmering Collette Dinnigan dress and bejeweled Prada platforms. The loose side bun added that touch of glamour Taylor consistently delivers.

Jennifer Aniston
Style Shout-out

We did a double take when we saw Jennifer Aniston in this Prada number at Women in Film's Crystal and Lucy Awards. What, no black? A trendy gleaming metallic? Breasts??!!! The style gods must be crazy! Thankfully, the always pared-down dresser chose the perfect accessory—the self-deprecating attitude that was on full display as she poked fun at her own love life.

Jessica Biel
Style Shout-out

For an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Jessica Biel managed to bring sexy back into modest khaki. The skirt hugs her enviable curves, and the blousy navy top adds a relaxed feel to her cool and collected look. But our fave part is that Tom Binns statement necklace. It's so haute we're happy to forgive Jess for bringing what we're guessing to be a change of clothes in that large denim Prada tote.

Katie Holmes
Style Shout-out

Who says you need to dress like an American flag to support your country? Katie Holmes looked all-American chic in a monochromatic navy ensemble at the 20th annual PBS National Memorial Day Concert at the U.S. Capitol. Mrs. Cruise honored veterans with All My Sons costar Dianne Wiest by reenacting the story of Staff Sergeant José Pequeño, who was severely injured in Iraq. And boy, did she look good doing it. The high-waisted pant makes her legs seem as long Naomi Campbell's, and the breezy button-down is laid-back but still appropriate for such an important tribute.

Brooke Shields
Style Shout-out

When she was modeling her Calvins, Brooke Shields used to tan with baby oil and a reflector. But these days, the new spokesperson for Coppertone Nutrashield slathers on SPF 70 whenever she steps out of the house. "There's an inevitable aging process, but we don't have to make it faster," said Brooke at the suncare brand's launch yesterday. "We can slow it down a little bit."

Brooke seems to have slowed it down more than just a bit. Even after having two children, she still has the same body from her Blue Lagoon days. She showed it off to the max in a curve-hugging navy Michael Kors sheath and Prada peep-toes. But what we liked best were the details: an exposed zipper on the side and blue, yes bright blue, toenails! The beauty knows to have fun in life; it's how she stays looking young. "Be happy, be thankful for what you have," she told mystyle. "And those frown marks just don't happen."

Jessica Alba
Style Shout-out

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition "Between Eternity and History: 1884-2009" marking Bulgari's 125th anniversary, Jessica made sure she herself looked like a precious jewel: This satin Prada dress with shoulder embellishments suits her natural silhouette, and the Bulgari bling (on her ears and wrist) would make anyone light up.

Iman
Style Shout-out

We usually recommend superbright doses in moderation. It's very hard to pull off head-to-toe neon, for instance, without looking like a highlighter. But Iman is the exception to the rule. At the America Ballet Theatre Spring Gala, the supermodel looked as if she were stepping off the pages of a summer Vogue editorial in an Oscar de la Renta gown from this year's resort collection. The color really pops against her skin, and the soft waves, natural makeup and minimal accessories are perfect choices because they don't compete with the gown. Had Iman gone with the bright lips and large gold earrings shown on the runway, we might be singing a different style tune.

Michelle Monaghan
Style Shout-out

One of my favorite collections from New York Fashion Week Fall 2009 was Peter Som's mishmash of color. The bright hues were so optimistic, the patterns were so modern, and the abundance of clashing was unarguably cool. Thankfully, Michelle Monaghan does the collection justice—and then some. At Disney Pixar's Up premiere in Los Angeles, the actress played up the freshness of her frock by opting for pastel Casadei pumps in lieu of the obvious leg-lengthening nude stilettos. I especially love how the pink doesn't match any of the colors in the out-of-focus print, yet is light enough that the dress remains the main focus. The next star to wear Peter Som has a tough act to follow.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams was full of surprises—two, to be exact—on the red carpet at her latest movie, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. At first glance, she looks positively elegant and demure—she's all covered up. Check out the pintucking and the draping of her RM by Roland Mouret dress. And the color! Lilac is always lovely. But if you look closely, you can actually see she's flashing her headlights! Not exactly what we'd expect from the red-carpet star. But this dress is so unbelievably gorgeous, we forgive Amy for not wearing a bra. She was probably so bowled over by it, she simply forgot.
